Large Volume Liposuction - Los Angeles, Beverly Hills

Liposuction is excellent for removal of fat in stubborn areas resistant to diet and exercise. It is optimally employed for body contouring or sculpting, hence the term “liposculpture.”

While liposuction is highly effective at improving curves, it’s not as good a solution for overall weight loss. Large volume liposuction, however, is a good option for some patients who need more fat removal than the average patient.  Large volume liposuction, as the name implies, involves the suctioning of large volumes of fat during a liposuction procedure.

A board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Stoker is nationally recognized for his extensive experience in performing even the most complex large volume liposuction procedures.

Large Volume Liposuction and the Tumescent Technique
Tumescent liposuction involves pre-treating the area of fatty tissue with a dilute wetting solution containing lidocaine and adrenaline. The lidocaine is an anesthetic, increasing patient comfort while solubilizing fat cells for easier removal.  Epinephrine is a good vasoconstrictor (constricts blood vessels) to minimize blood loss and bruising. The net result is that the tumescent technique allows Dr. Stoker to remove larger volumes of fat.

Essentially, large volume liposuction is made possible by the tumescent solution and a gentle technique. Dr. Stoker’s extensive experience with liposuction enables him to achieve excellent outcomes in difficult cases. Patients who have large volume liposuction often say they have increased self-confidence from their improved shape.

Large Volume Liposuction to Improve Overall Health?
Can large volume liposuction improve your health? A number of clinical studies in peer-reviewed medical journals say yes. Many of our patients who seek large volume liposuction are significantly overweight; they frequently have a condition known as metabolic syndrome, which involves high cholesterol and triglycerides, high blood pressure, and insulin sensitivity (pre-diabetes).  The studies suggest that large volume liposuction may improve these attributes of metabolic syndrome. 1,2,3,4  It can be combined with bariatric surgery or used as a stand-alone procedure. More studies need to be done to confirm these findings.
